OPEN ACCESS Jacobs Journal of Addiction and Therapy 15 Hz Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Over the Left Prefrontal Cor- tex Reduces Cocaine Craving

چکیده
Craving is an uncontrollable impulse to assume abusive substances, often associated with intense anxiety, dysphoria, irritability, agitation, impulsive or explosive behaviours, as well as with somatic symptoms such as headache and asthenia. Craving can be separated into two components: an ‘appetitive craving’, that is searching for the abusive substance as a source of pleasure, and an ‘aversive craving’, that is anxiety of abstinence and abstinence itself. Thus, we can take into consideration a primary craving, physical or pharmacological, and a Abstract

Prediction of the response to repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation by spectral powers of prefrontal regions of brain.
Introduction: Quantitative assessments of the effects induced by repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) are crucial to develop more efficient and personalized treatments. Objectives: To determine the spectral powers of different subbands of EEG correlated with treatment response to rTMS. Materials and Methods: the spectral powers of different...
متن کاملOne session of high frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) to the right prefrontal cortex transiently reduces cocaine craving.
BACKGROUND Cocaine dependence is a public health problem affecting 2 million individuals in USA. Craving is a predictor of subsequent cocaine use and is related to changes in brain activity in networks involving the prefrontal cortex. METHODS We investigated the efficacy of one session of high frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) to reduce craving in cocaine addicted ...
متن کاملSafety and Therapeutic Effects of Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and Behavior Therapy in a Pregnant Woman: Case Report
In this study, the authors reported a case of woman with severe compulsion who became pregnant during the Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation. We carried out Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation and behavior therapy simultaneously after repeated medications' refraction. The patient received 20 sessions 1 Hz Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation in right dorsolateral pref...
متن کاملRole of Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation on drug use craving and addictive behaviors: Review Study
Introduction & Objective: Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is an electro physiologic brain stimulation and integration technique that can change the cortical excitability of the target area in the brain and modulate the nervous and muscular ductility. Addiction is associated with dysfunction of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) and altered cerebral oscillations. Acco...

Objective: The present study was an attempt to examine the effect of repetitive Transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) on the reduction of Behavioral Activation System's activity in right and left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex among methamphetamine abusers. Method: In the present study, single subject and multiple baseline research designs were used and repeated measurements observations wer...
